The IGP Sindh has withdrawn an order issued earlier for the promotion of about 500 police officials.
While no handout was issued by the police department on the withdrawal order, this may be that the move had been made in accordance with a ruling of the Supreme Court.
They said the apex court had termed the out-of-turn promotions illegal and unconstitutional.
Official sources said that “Standing Order No 236/2010” was withdrawn by IGP Sindh Fayyaz Leghari on Saturday under which around 500 police personnel who were promoted from assistant sub-inspectors to sub-inspectors and inspectors would stand reverted.
Several petitions challenging out-of-turn promotions in the department are pending in the courts.
