Rs 23.5b okayed for flood reconstruction projects

After the passage of more than a year of flash floods, the govt has finally approved an amount of Rs 23.5 billion for post-flood reconstruction and replacement projects.
“ECNEC in its recent meeting has approved an amount of Rs 23.5 billion for Post-Flood Reconstruction / Replacement Projects, “ Chairman National Highway Authority Mohammad Junaid said while addressing the 205th Executive Board meeting of NHA. The chairman said that ECNEC has approved PC-1s of 9 major projects of NHA across the country, worth Rs 56,926.31 million.
In Punjab ECNEC has approved Qasim Bela- Shershah Road Multan Bypass (12.3 km) costing Rs 2,681.000 million, Bridge across River Ravi Linking Basti Dulluan - Sandhilianwali costing Rs 2,089.464 million and Rehabilitation, Up-gradation & Dualization of Multan-Shujaabad-Jalalpur Pirwala-Uch Sharif-TM Panah (142 km)costing Rs 8,493.876 million. He told the Board that the projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa include Shatial - Thor Nullah Bypass (34 km)(Rs. 3,844.431 million), 2-Lane Bridge across River Indus at Khushalgarh (Rs 1,538.00 million), and Malakand Tunnel (Phase-I) 4.25 km with 12.9 km access road (Rs 9,043.325 million). In Sindh and Balochistan, he told, one project each has been approved which include rehabilitation of Larkana-Rasheed Waggan-Naseerabad Road (33km) in Sindh, costing Rs 1,214.582 million and reconstruction of Basima-Khuzdar road (110 km), costing 4454.631 million. The Executive Board also discussed changes in the Regulatory Framework & SOP for preservation and commercial use of Right-of-Way.
