Section 498-F of PPC

A full bench of the Supreme Court  of Pakistan has expressed strong concern over the misuse of Section 498-F of Pakistan Penal Code. The said section pertains  to cheque dishonour, misuse of this section  is leading to increased corruption.

The bench remarked that a 3 years maximum punishment could be given under section 489-F, however, surprisingly an accused was held behind the bars for eight months and the trial court had failed to conclude any trial in this regard so far.


SC urged to conclude the trail speedily in these cases as it is not too difficult to do so. The accused should not be behind bars for longer periods if not convicted. He should be released early if found innocent or otherwise punished but verdicts should be given soon.
