US will hold back about $800 million in aid to the Pakistani army because it is unhappy as Pakistan sent back US military trainers and its displeased over campaign against terrorists, the New York Times reported on Saturday.
United States wanted Pakistan to intensify its counterterrorism efforts against extremists while Pakistan did not like the surprise US raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on May 2,without informing Islamabad and taking it into confidence and secondly drone attacks that have killed innocent civilians.
The Times, citing three US senior officials, said the US was suspending or canceling $800 million in aid and equipment,more than 1/3rd of the $2 billion it pledges to Pakistan for security assistance.
