mobile phone scratch cards fraud

The forged mobile phone scratch cards’ case,first of its kind in Pakistan’s history, will be proceeded in court of Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Kamran Bashrat Mufti on July 19,2011.

An FIR vide 10/08 was registered against 11 allged members of a gang for printing non-genuine scratch cards, under section 36, 37 of Electronic Transaction Ordinance (ETO) 2002 and 420, 468, 471, 109, 406 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) by the complaint of local telecom company.

According to FIA, on May 16, 2008, the local Telecom (Pvt) Ltd. lodged a complaint with FIA Director General Islamabad against some unknown persons fraudulently modified the e-mails forwarded by the procurement department of the company and generated extra batches of scratch cards. It was alleged that the accused made 17,750,000 scratch cards of different denomination, out of that 905,987 scratch cards were sold , which caused a loss of Rs 134.4 million to the company. The matter was referred to the FIA Crime Circle Rawalpindi, for further inquiry and to report on June 14, 2008.
