Shandur festival, Chief Minister Gilgit Biltistan Syed Mehdi Shah inaugurates today


Three-day Shandur Polo Festival opens today in Chitral, Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have made all necessary arrangements.
It has been learnt that Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah would inaugurate the event while PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would be chief guest at the final session.
KP Governor , Information Minister (KP) and Sports Minister besides other ministers and lawmakers would also attend this event.
CM Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on behalf of TCKP and people of the province had already invited the newly-wed royal couple, Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, to watch the final of the traditional polo tournament.
“Teams from Gilgit-Baltistan are also participating in the festival, which will make the event memorable ,” a press release stated. The unique freestyle polo final match between Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan teams will be of great attraction for the tourists and visitors from all around the world.
Local and foreign tourists have also began arriving Shandur to watch this marvelous event.
Fanfare and festivity in the gala, the tourists and visitors would also be entertained with paragliding, indigenous folk culture, arts, crafts, traditional cuisines, folk music, fun and food of KP.
The Shandur Pass, which is one of the most peaceful and serene areas of Pakistan, is situated at a distance of 147 km from Chitral and 212 km from Gilgit. The polo festival is celebrated on the ‘Roof of the World’ that's the highest polo ground about 12,500 feet above sea level, where the Hindukush, Pamir and Karakoram ranges meet.
